My name is Lily Qian, I am an illustrator and designer based in Brooklyn, New York.
Traditional analog techniques mean a lot to me and I take inspiration from experimenting with different materials and exploring accidents that occur when mixing different materials and textured backgrounds.
I love working with watercolor, ink, charcoal, pencil, and acrylic on all kinds of surfaces like fabrics, paper, cardboard and alternative photography prints.
People, fashion, lifestyle, and still life are my favorite subjects. Besides storytelling, I love playing the line between abstract and recognizable shapes to create a moment of surprise in my illustrations.
Since 2017 I've been working on a very special and meaningful scarf & travel collection partnered with Others Trade for Hope. This amazing initiative has supported four generations of families. Each scarf celebrates the hand made - hand dyed, hand weaved, and hand embroidered by a small group of women and men in Bangladesh. Each scarf is a powerful purchase.
